Napoli director Cristiano Giuntoli insists that the club do not intend to sign any players in January, amid interest in Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo.

Napoli director Cristiano Giuntoli insists that the club do not intend to sign any players in the January transfer window, amid interest in Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo, 37, is believed to be open to a return to Serie A, less than 18 months after leaving Juventus to move back to Old Trafford.

The Portuguese forward has struggled to break into Erik ten Hag's first team this season, starting only six of his 12 appearances across all competitions and scoring just twice.

Ronaldo faces an uncertain future at United after he was recently axed from the first-team squad as he refused to come on as a substitute in the Premier League win over Tottenham Hotspur last week.

Serie A leaders Napoli have been credited with an interest in the five-time Ballon d'Or winner, who is out of contract with the Red Devils in the summer of 2023.

However, club director Giuntoli has dismissed speculation over a proposed move for Ronaldo and expects a quiet winter window for the Italian outfit.

Speaking to DAZN, Giuntoli said: "Ronaldo in January? We won't sign any player in January. We don't need to change anything in this team. We're doing great and we're not planning any signing, as of today.

"I might be repetitive, but we really are not thinking about the transfer market right now. And even if I did have to talk about it, I would say we need nothing, because there are no problems in the squad that need to be repaired.

"Things are going so well that we would not make a single move."

Napoli have made an impressive unbeaten start to the 2022-23 campaign across all competitions, winning each of their last 11 matches, with Luciano Spalletti's side sitting top of Serie A and Group A of the Champions League.

Two of Napoli's standout performers so far this season have been striker Victor Osimhen and summer recruit Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who have contributed to 21 goals between them.

Osimhen has been linked with a potential switch to the Premier League, with the likes of Man United, Chelsea and Tottenham believed to be keeping tabs on the 23-year-old Nigerian.

Meanwhile, Manchester City have been credited with an interest in 21-year-old Georgian winger Kvaratskhelia, who only joined the Naples-based outfit in July for around £10m from Dinamo Batumi.

However, Giuntoli insists that both players are not for sale, adding: "[Kvaratskhelia] is doing very well, as are many. There's a long way until the transfer window opens, but there is absolutely nothing in it.

"We are very happy and we want to keep doing well. Is Kvaratskhelia off the market? Absolutely, he is not for sale."

On Osimhen, Giuntoli said: "I repeat, we are not thinking about the transfer market right now. We try to grow day by day and see what we can achieve.

"Our transfer strategy is always done with the head and not the heart, both for incoming and outgoing players. I think we have always managed to form a competitive squad and we are doing well this season too."

Both Osimhen and Kvaratskhelia were rested in Napoli's 3-0 Champions League home win over Rangers on Wednesday night, but the attacking duo are expected to return to the first XI for Saturday's Serie A clash with Sassuolo.
