Experienced centre-back Raphael Varane will reportedly leave Manchester United during next summer's transfer window.

The ex-France international made the move to Old Trafford from Real Madrid in 2021, and he has represented the Red Devils on 75 occasions, scoring twice and providing one assist in the process.

Varane has a contract with the 20-time English champions until June 2025, but there has recently been speculation surrounding his future.

Various clubs from Saudi Arabia are said to be interested in signing the Frenchman in January, while there has also been talk of a potential mid-season switch to Bayern Munich.

According to The Sun, the defender will not be allowed to leave Erik ten Hag's side during the winter transfer window, but he is set to move on at the end of the 2023-24 campaign.

Varane has only made 12 appearances for Man United this season, and he has not actually started a Premier League match since the loss to Crystal Palace at the end of September.

The Frenchman has recently been overlooked for starts, with Jonny Evans preferred alongside Harry Maguire in the middle of the defence, and he has featured as a late substitute in the team's last two Premier League matches with Fulham and Luton Town.

Victor Lindelof joined Maguire in the middle against Luton before the international break, and the pair could continue as the centre-back partnership at Everton on Sunday afternoon.

There is allegedly huge interest in Varane from the Saudi Pro League, but a move to Italy is also thought to be a serious option for the experienced defender.

Man United would reportedly be looking for around £17m for Varane, who is one of the highest earners at Old Trafford alongside Marcus Rashford and Casemiro.

Ten Hag recently said that Varane's spell out of the side is down to form rather than any potential issue between the two individuals, telling reporters: "It is about tactical reasons why I chose these partnerships. I think Harry and Jonny did well.

"What I said last year, Harry didn't play a lot, so I was very happy with Rapha's performances. I have always been happy with his performance."

Varane helped Man United win the EFL Cup trophy last term, and this could potentially be his final chance to secure more silverware at the club before departing next year.

Maguire is now set to remain at Old Trafford due to his upturn in form, while Lisandro Martinez is expected to return from a foot injury before the end of the year, but both Evans and Lindelof only have contracts with the 20-time English champions until next June.
