Report: William Carvalho wanted by Manchester United, Liverpool

Sporting Lisbon star William Carvalho is a £35m target for both Manchester United and Liverpool this summer, according to a report.

Manchester United and Liverpool will reportedly battle it out to land the signature of Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho this summer.

The Portugal international is said to have a £35m release clause in his current deal, although that price could drop by around £10m due to changes made to third party ownership.

Carvalho has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League before, with both Arsenal and Chelsea touted as potential suitors, but the Daily Mail suggests that the race to sign the in-demand Sporting man could now be between arch-rivals United and Liverpool.

It is suggested that Brendan Rodgers is keen on bringing the 22-year-old to Anfield as a replacement for Los Angeles Galaxy-bound Steven Gerrard, while the Red Devils have made a midfield enforcer one of their top targets when the transfer window reopens.

Carvalho has made 30 appearances for the Lions this season, picking up 10 yellow cards and one red during that time.
