Arsenal 'step up pursuit of £25m-rated William Carvalho'

Arsenal reportedly decide to step up their pursuit of £25m-rated Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho after assessing their options.

Arsenal have reportedly decided to switch their attention to Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho after considering their various transfer options.

The North London outfit have already been linked with the 22-year-old in this window, but it is believed that manager Arsene Wenger is ready to launch a bid.

According to The Express, Wenger believes that Carvalho is the best option after looking at Loic Perrin, Morgan Schneiderlin, Grzegorz Krychowiak and Sami Khedira.

Reports have claimed that the Portuguese club will only consider selling the defensive midfielder this month if they receive offers in the region of £25m.

Wenger claimed at the weekend that the club are in the market for a defensive player.
