Valencia warn Manchester United that Nicolas Otamendi will cost them £35m

Valencia executive president Amadeo Salvo warns Manchester United that they will have to pay £35m for Nicolas Otamendi this summer.

Valencia have warned Manchester United that only a £35m bid will force the Spanish club to consider selling defender Nicolas Otamendi this summer.

The 27-year-old's agent Eugenio Lopez claimed yesterday that his client, who is believed to be United manager Louis van Gaal's priority defensive signing, wants to leave Valencia.

Despite the claims, the Spanish club's executive president Amadeo Salvo has insisted that it will not be easy for the defender to leave as the club are determined to keep him for the remaining four years of his contract.

"Otamendi is a Valencia player and if he wants to leave I wait for him to tell us formally," the Daily Star quotes Salvo as saying. "If his agent has an offer I only warn him that the price is €50m (£35m) and that we will decide the form of payment.

"Valencia have not received any offer. We are very happy with the player and we would like that he sees out his contract with us. Valencia do not give in to pressure from any agent or any comments. If Otamendi wants to leave he will have to say it publicly."

United, who are thought to value Otamendi at £21m, are reportedly considering offering Javier Hernandez to Valencia as part of the deal.
