Middlesbrough manager Tony Mowbray has admitted that Watford were unlucky to leave the Riverside pointless after his side's 1-0 victory this evening.
Australian Scott McDonald appeared to be in an offside position when he beat Scott Loach in the Hornets' net to score the only goal of the game.
"Was it offside? Maybe. Probably. But It doesn't matter," said Mowbray.
"But it was harsh on Watford because they probably will feel they deserved something from the game. It comes down to fine margins and that decision has gone against them but that's life, especially in this division."
Opposing manager Sean Dyche was less philosophical when he analysed the officials' performance.
"Of course we are disappointed with the decision. It was obvious. It changed the feel and momentum of the game," he said.
Both sides return to Championship action in a fortnight as Boro host Blackpool and Watford face Portsmouth at Vicarage Road.
