Report: Newcastle United's Rob Elliot out for six months

A report claims that a knee injury will rule Newcastle United and Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Rob Elliot out of Euro 2016.

Newcastle United goalkeeper Rob Elliot has reportedly been ruled out of Euro 2016.

The 29-year-old sustained a knee injury during the Republic of Ireland's 2-2 draw against Slovakia in Dublin last night.

It was feared at the time that the complaint would sideline Elliot for some time, and according to Sky Sports News, an assessment has now confirmed that is the case.

The report adds that the keeper is likely to be out of action for six months, which would mean that he will also miss the start of next season.

Elliot has made 22 appearances for the Magpies in all competitions this term.
