Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has admitted that he does not expect a manager of "great stature" like Rafael Benitez to stay with the club in the Championship.
Benitez, who was sacked by Real Madrid earlier in the season, joined the Magpies as they tried to avoid the drop.
However, after Newcastle's relegation to English football's second tier, Shearer suggested that the club may need a new manager.
Shearer told BBC Sport: "A guy of great stature, a world-renowned coach with his CV managing in the Championship? I can't see it happening.
"I'd love to be wrong. It would be brilliant if he was to stay."
Newcastle's relegation was confirmed on Wednesday after nearest rivals Sunderland beat Everton to secure their place in the Premier League.
