John Carver "proud" of Newcastle United appointment

John Carver says that it is a "proud day" for him after being appointed Newcastle United head coach.

John Carver has described his appointment as Newcastle United head coach as a "proud day".

The Magpies confirmed on Monday that the 50-year-old, who had been in caretaker charge following the departure of Alan Pardew to Crystal Palace, would remain in the role until the end of the season.

Carver believes that his experience and knowledge of the club will help him to deliver an exciting brand of football at St James' Park.

"This is a proud day for me," he told Newcastle's official website. "I have worked with, and learnt from, the best manager that this football club has had in Sir Bobby Robson. I know what this club means to this city and its people. I believe in my players and the staff I have around me.

"I am confident that we can deliver exciting successful football and look forward with relish to my role as head coach of this great football club."

Carver has lost three and drawn one of his previous four matches in charge of Newcastle.
