John Carver: 'Wins more important than performances'

Newcastle United interim boss John Carver challenges his side to end their five-game losing streak by grinding out wins.

Newcastle United interim boss John Carver has claimed that he wants the team to start picking up wins "by hook or by crook".

The Magpies are currently on a five-game losing run, forcing them into the bottom half of the Premier League table.

Carver has now challenged his players to end their poor form by any means necessary - even if that means grinding out ugly victories.

"There's no doubt about it - we are looking for results by hook or by crook," he told Sky Sports News. "If I cast my mind back to Arsenal, we performed quite well without winning. Now it is all about winning, not about how we perform. It's about the results. It is encouraging that we have four at home and two away, but we have to start winning now."

Newcastle are back in action tomorrow when they welcome Tottenham Hotspur to St James' Park in the league.
