Meeting between Newcastle United, Steve McClaren called off?

A planned meeting between Newcastle United managing director Lee Charnley and manager Steve McClaren reportedly did not go ahead this afternoon.

A meeting between Newcastle United managing director Lee Charnley and manager Steve McClaren reportedly did not go ahead as planned on Wednesday afternoon.

It was thought that the under-fire coach was to have make-or-break talks with the Premier League outfit today.

McClaren's position at St James' Park has come into question following just two wins in the last 12 matches, which has dropped the North-East club to 19th in the Premier League table.

According to Sky Sports News, McClaren and Charnley did not meet this afternoon, which has left the 54-year-old's future unclear.

It has been reported that former Real Madrid boss Rafael Benitez has already been contacted by Newcastle officials, while ex-Everton and Manchester United manager David Moyes has also been linked to the role.
