Ayoze Perez: 'Mistakes cost Newcastle United against Bournemouth'

Newcastle United forward Ayoze Perez opens up about his side's defeat at home to Bournemouth.

Newcastle United forward Ayoze Perez has admitted that careless errors cost his side dearly in their 1-0 defeat at home to Bournemouth.

The Spaniard, who started the afternoon on the bench, conceded that the Magpies' inability to maintain possession was their downfall in the Premier League match.

"The main thing is we made a lot of mistakes and gave the ball away quite easy," the Evening Chronicle quotes Perez as saying. "That made Bournemouth feel comfortable on the counter-attack. That's what they were waiting for.

"We did well during some moments but it wasn't enough. Our performance included a lot of mistakes and we can't be happy with that."

Bournemouth's win, which came courtesy of a stoppage-time strike by Steve Cook, leaves them in 17th place in the table while Newcastle occupy 11th.
