Rafael Benitez considering Newcastle United stay?

Rafael Benitez may reportedly decide to stay on as Newcastle United manager, even if the Magpies are relegated to the Championship.

There is a reported growing belief on Tyneside that Rafael Benitez will remain Newcastle United manager next season, regardless of what division the club is in.

Upon his appointment in March, Benitez indicated that he had no intention of working in the Championship when he revealed that a clause had been inserted into his three-year contract allowing him to depart if the Magpies were relegated.

It appears that the Spaniard has been unsuccessful in his quest to keep Newcastle in the Premier League, with their fate sealed if rivals Sunderland win either of their remaining two matches.

On top of that, Benitez's men will also be demoted if they lose to Tottenham Hotspur at St James' Park on Sunday afternoon.

However, The Telegraph claims that the 56-year-old is now considering staying on, even if it means managing in the second tier of English football.

The report adds that Benitez is likely to make a final decision on his future shortly after the Spurs game.
