Daryl Janmaat: 'Players are behind Steve McClaren'

Newcastle United defender Daryl Janmaat states that the players back Steve McClaren despite their struggles this season.

Newcastle United defender Daryl Janmaat has insisted that the players are fully behind head coach Steve McClaren despite their struggles this season.

The Magpies currently sit in the Premier League relegation zone following Saturday's 5-1 thrashing at the hands of Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Janmaat has suggested that McClaren, who was appointed before the season began, needs to be given more time to settle in the job.

"For him it is hard as well," Janmaat told Sky Sports News. "He came in the summer with a lot of ambitions.

"We bought some new players in and we all expected more from the start of the season. It's disappointing and I understand it but there are still 24 games to go."

Newcastle host Liverpool next Sunday afternoon.
