Newcastle boss Alan Pardew admits that he wants to sign new players in January.

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has admitted that he will attempt to strengthen his squad in all positions when the transfer window opens in January.

After an encouraging start to the season, the Magpies have slipped down the table after losing a number of first-team players to injury.

"We are having to look at our squad because we are stretched, especially defensively. We have made some calls to try and find out who is available," Pardew told Sky Sports News.

"It's a difficult window. You want to try and get a good player in a window when teams don't want to lose their good players."

Newcastle will attempt to return to winning ways when they travel to Bolton on Monday afternoon.
