BBC agree a deal to continue broadcasting Premier League highlights until the end of the 2015-2016 season.

The BBC has agreed a new deal with the Premier League allowing them to broadcast highlights from England's top division until the end of the 2015-2016 season.

Both Match of the Day and its twin programme Match of the Day 2, aired on Saturday and Sunday evenings respectively, will continue running as scheduled.

The deal also covers rights to broadcast the Sunday morning repeat show and have the programme available on BBC iPlayer from midnight on Mondays.

Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore said: "The free-to-air highlights are extremely important to the broadcast reach of the Premier League; allowing the competition and our clubs to be seen by the maximum possible number of fans across the country.

"The BBC has done a fantastic job for fans of Premier League clubs by providing quality coverage and analysis across their programmes."

It is reported that the deal cost the BBC a fee in the region of £179.7m.
