David Ginola 'planning to challenge Sepp Blatter for FIFA presidency'

Former France international David Ginola is reportedly launching a bid to become the next president of FIFA.

Former Newcastle United star David Ginola is reportedly planning to launch a campaign to become the next president of FIFA.

The Frenchman wants to challenge Sepp Blatter for the top job and has enlisted the help of bookmaker Paddy Power to support his bid, according to The Sun.

Ginola, who also names Tottenham Hotspur and Everton among his former clubs, is said to have been given until January 29 to prove he has played an active role in football for two of the last five years.

He must also present evidence that he has the backing of five national associations to stand a chance of landing the role.

FIFA vice-president Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein of Jordan, former FIFA official Jerome Champagne and former Chile football leader Harold Mayne-Nicholls have also expressed an interest in the FIFA presidency.

Blatter, who has been head of FIFA since 2008, is running for a fifth term at the 65th FIFA congress in Zurich on May 29.
