Campaigners call for West Yorkshire Police chief constable Sir Norman Bettison to stand down following the Hillsborough report.

Campaigners have called for the most senior serving policeman involved in the Hillsborough disaster to stand down.

Wednesday's report into the 1989 tragedy which saw 96 Liverpool fans crushed to death revealed that South Yorkshire Police doctored statements in an attempt to blame fans.

West Yorkshire Police chief constable Sir Norman Bettison, who was working as an off-duty inspector on the day, claimed on Thursday that he has "nothing to hide".

Hillsborough campaigners are now hoping that Bettison, who has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission, stands down from his position in the force as well as be stripped of his knighthood.

South Yorkshire Police announced on Thursday that they are considering referring themselves to the IPCC over their conduct 23 years ago.
