Josh Murphy double sends Norwich City through

Josh Murphy's double paves the way for Norwich City as they overcome Crawley Town 3-1 at Carrow Round in the League Cup second round.

Norwich City have booked their place in the third round of the League Cup courtesy of a 3-1 victory over Crawley Town.

A lively start to the contest at Carrow Road saw both sides get attempts in at goal, but it was the hosts who made the breakthrough courtesy of Cameron Jerome, who tapped the ball home after Brian Jenson fumbled.

Jerome very nearly added a second goal on his debut before the interval, only for Jensen to tip his effort onto the crossbar.

Four minutes after the restart Josh Murphy found the target to double the Canaries' lead, finding the bottom corner of the net with his strike across goal.

Crawley were by no means out of the game, though, and Carlos Cuellar's sliced clearance into his own net on 55 minutes gifted the Red Devils a lifeline.

The League One side had a strong shout for a penalty turned down one minute from time, while Gavin Tomlin's close-range effort was well kept out by Declan Rudd shortly after.

Murphy added a third goal for Norwich at the other end to secure the victory, however, curling the ball into the top corner from the edge of the box.
