Chris Hughton urges Josh Murphy caution

Chris Hughton says that youngster Josh Murphy is unlikely to play for Norwich City in the Premier League this season.

Norwich City manager Chris Hughton has insisted that Josh Murphy is not ready for Premier League football.

The 18-year-old came off the bench to make a scoring senior debut for the Canaries during last night's 3-2 victory over Watford in the League Cup at Vicarage Road.

It had resulted in reports that the attacker could now earn a place in the Norwich squad on a regular basis, but Hughton has moved to cool those rumours.

"We're aware of the ability that he has got and we'll harness that in the right way," Hughton told BBC Radio Norfolk. "No he's not [ready for the Premier League]. He's a young 18-year-old but he hasn't done himself any harm."

Murphy, along with his twin brother Jacob, played a key role in Norwich winning the FA Youth Cup last season.
