Forest manager Sean O'Driscoll wants to add Ward to his squad after the defender played under him at Doncaster Rovers in 2010, according to Sky Sports News.
Ward has spent the past two seasons at Carrow Road and he featured regularly at the end of last season.
Nottingham Forest have also registered an interest in Ward's teammate Daniel Ayala.
