Orlando City stop rot with Sporting Kansas City win

Orlando City beat Sporting Kansas City 3-1 at the Citrus Bowl to end a six-match barren spell.

Orlando City brought an end to their six-match winless run by beating Sporting Kansas City 3-1 at the Citrus Bowl this morning.

City, who had lost four in that streak, put their recent woes behind them as early as the third minute courtesy of Adrian Winter.

The midfielder peeled away from his marker to nod Luke Boden's deep free kick past Jon Kempin for what was his first goal for Orlando.

Kansas, without a win in five outings themselves, came close to levelling up on 17 minutes when Dom Dwyer's header skimmed over the crossbar.

It took plenty of huffing and puffing, but the visitors did level just before the hour mark when Krisztian Nemeth curled into the top corner to leave Tally Hall with no chance.

However, being pegged back only inspired the hosts once more, as second-half substitutes Brek Shea and Bryan Rochez combined well before the latter tapped home on 66 minutes.

Orlando effectively wrapped up the win six minutes later when Winter exchanged a crisp one-two with Lewis Neal before toe-poking past Kempin.

Dwyer was shown a straight red card in the closing stages for a scuffle with Mateos to compound a disappointing performance from the visitors.
