Fernando Santos: 'Portugal can win Euro 2016'

Portugal have the quality to win Euro 2016, according to head coach Fernando Santos.

Fernando Santos has claimed that his Portugal team can win Euro 2016.

The Selecao have won all six of their qualifiers under Santos, who replaced the sacked Paulo Bento following a shock 1-0 defeat by Albania in their Group I curtain-raiser.

Led by captain Cristiano Ronaldo, the Portugal boss is convinced that his troops have enough quality to leave France with the title next summer.

"Some people say I'm crazy because I say that we are not favourites as well as saying that we have the quality to win," he told reporters. "There are many candidates. Portugal has the objective to go to France, win games and win the European Championships.

"When I arrived everything was difficult - it was hard to get third place. Now, everything is great. This team is capable but there are things to improve. If we maintain what we have been doing and improve these aspects, not being the favourites, we are one of the candidates.

"I believe it is possible. When I arrived I wrote on the board for the players to read: first goal, qualify for France as first in the group; second goal, get to France and fight for victory."

Santos and co round off their campaign with a trip to Serbia - who cannot qualify - on Sunday evening.
