Joey Barton to escape FA Twitter charge

The FA reportedly decide against charging Joey Barton over his comments claiming that match officials were "conned" by Norwich, which led to a red card for the midfielder.

Queens Park Rangers captain Joey Barton is expected to escape any disciplinary action from the Football Association over his comments following his dismissal from Rangers' defeat to Norwich City on Monday.

The former Newcastle United midfielder claimed that the match officials were "conned" by Norwich's Bradley Johnson, with whom Barton appeared to clash heads during QPR's 2-1 defeat to the Canaries.

The 29-year-old took to Twitter to express his discontent at the red card decision, prompting fears that the playmaker could face a charge from the FA. However, it is understood that the governing body will take no action over the comments, according to the Daily Mail.

QPR have since appealed the red card offence issued to Barton.
