Joey Barton takes to Twitter to admit that he fully deserves the punishments that he has received for his conduct against Manchester City.

Joey Barton has admitted that he is fully deserving of all the punishments that he has received for his conduct on the final day of the Premier League season.

Having been red carded for striking Carlos Tevez around the head at the Etihad Stadium, Barton then appeared to kick Sergio Aguero before going on to aim a headbutt at Vincent Kompany.

The Football Association punished the 29-year-old by suspending him for the first 12 matches of the new campaign.

Queens Park Rangers have also concluded their own investigation, which has resulted in the midfielder being stripped of the club's captaincy and fined six weeks' wages.

Despite issuing a short statement on the club's website, Barton took to Twitter this afternoon to provide his reaction to his numerous punishments.

"I was reckless and deserved every punishment I received. Money comes and goes, it's not important to me. Losing the captaincy and missing 12 games, is what really hurts. I was stupid and that what happens when u do dumb things. I am confident ill bounce back. Cannot wait.

"That's all I have to say on the matter. I wish to put it behind me now and help QPR, once available of course, push on towards the top half."

Barton joined the R's last summer from Newcastle United.
