Chris Ramsey: 'Aston Villa lucky to have Tim Sherwood'

Queens Park Rangers boss Chris Ramsey believes that Aston Villa were lucky to appoint Tim Sherwood as manager.

Queens Park Rangers head coach Chris Ramsey has stated that Aston Villa were lucky to get Tim Sherwood as their manager, ahead of facing his side on Tuesday evening.

The pair spent four years coaching together at Tottenham Hotspur before parting ways last summer, with Ramsey replacing Harry Redknapp on an interim basis at Loftus Road earlier this year, while Sherwood was given his first full-time managerial role following Paul Lambert's dismissal by Villa in February.

Ramsey admits that it will feel odd to go up against his former colleague.

"It will be strange as we will probably have a pint later in the week," he told talkSPORT.

"The game isn't about me and Tim. It's about Aston Villa and QPR. I saw the speculation and saw how well he did at Tottenham, Villa did well to get him.

"I think Tim did have negotiations with a few clubs but he was very sought-after when he left Tottenham. Anyone would have wanted him outside the top four."

Both clubs are fighting for Premier League survival, with QPR currently three points from safety and Villa two points above relegation.
