Scottish giants Rangers complete the signing of 21-year-old left-back Ridvan Yilmaz from Besiktas on a five-year contract.

Rangers have completed the signing of left-back Ridvan Yilmaz from Besiktas on a five-year contract.

The 21-year-old moves to Ibrox for an undisclosed fee, believed to be in the region of €6m (£5.1m), subject to international clearance and receiving his work permit.

Yilmaz has become Giovanni van Bronckhorst's seventh signing of the summer window after the arrivals of John Souttar, Antonio Colak, Tom Lawrence, Rabbi Matondo, Malik Tillman and Ben Davies.

Speaking to the club's official website on his arrival in Glasgow, Yilmaz said: "I am delighted to be joining a club the size of Rangers and am really looking forward to meeting my new teammates.

"This is a club who have shown they can compete against some of the best teams in Europe, and I am really excited by the challenges we have ahead of us.

"I have heard so much too about the Rangers supporters and I cannot wait to play in front of them for the first time."

Van Bronckhorst added: "I am really pleased to have added Ridvan to our squad and I believe he will bring a lot of quality to the club.

"I have been really impressed with his development in a really demanding, winning environment at Besiktas over the last few seasons.

"I am looking forward to welcoming him to training in the coming days and to seeing him in action for the first time."

Yilmaz joined Besiktas' academy back in 2009 and has since spent his entire career with the Turkish giants.

After 10 years as a youth player, the left-back made his professional debut in April 2019 before developing into a first-team regular.

Yilmaz leaves Besiktas after recording three goals and four assists in 33 appearances for the club across all competitions last season.

The Istanbul-born defender has six international caps for the Turkey national team and made his debut in May last year in a friendly against Azerbaijan.

Yilmaz, who is set to compete with Borna Barisic for a place at left-back, could make his competitive debut for Rangers in their Scottish Premiership opener away against Livingston on July 30.
