Reading 1-0 Bristol City

David James saves two penalties but still ends up on the losing side as Reading beat Bristol City 1-0.

Reading secured a narrow victory over ten-man Bristol City today, despite having two penalties saved by David James.

Jason Roberts bundled home the only goal of the game after seeing his spot-kick saved by James, giving Reading a win that lifts them up to fourth in the Championship.

It was the visitors who started brightly, Chris Wood having a header well tipped over by Federici.

Noel Hunt then had a good chance for the visitors after a good cross from Antonio, but the Reading man couldn't direct his shot on target.

Reading had another good chance at the end of the first half after David James failed to deal with a corner, only for Jem Karacan to hit his shot over the bar.

Wood had another chance for the visitors at the start of the second half, but again his header was saved by Federici, before Karacan had a similar effort saved by James at the other end.

The breakthrough came just before the hour mark for the Royals, when Jason Roberts was hauled down in the penalty area by Carey, who was subsequently sent off.

Roberts then stepped-up to take the spot-kick, but his effort was saved by James before the rebound was bundled in by the former Blackburn striker.

The ten men of City didn't give up, however, and Albert Adomah almost got an equaliser, but his shot came back off the angle.

Substitute Tomas Cywka then came on for his debut and made an immediate impact, winning another penalty for the home side. This time it was McAnuff who stepped up, but again James made the save.

The ex-England international then made another stunning save in injury time to deny McAnuff once again.
