Reading owner Anton Zingarevich has said that new manager Nigel Adkins will "definitely" have his backing in the transfer window this summer.

Reading owner Anton Zingarevich has said that new manager Nigel Adkins will be backed in the transfer window this summer.

The former Southampton boss took over at the Madejski Stadium on Tuesday, after being sacked from the Saints back in January.

"I'm backing Nigel [in the transfer market], definitely," Zingarevich is quoted as saying by talkSPORT.

"We tried to sign very big players in January but we were not successful. I thought we should have done a bit more, but we didn't. So we will see what we need to do. We haven't discussed any specifics. We will wait until the end of the season and then see what needs to be done.

"I thought we should have spent more [in January]. We tried signing players but I felt we should have been more active."

Zingarevich sacked Brian McDermott on March 11.
