Raphael Varane wants to win the Champions League with Real Madrid this year, saying that the competition is "special" to Los Blancos.

Raphael Varane has set his sights on yet another Champions League crown with Real Madrid this season.

The French centre-back, 26, has already won Europe's premier club competition four times with Los Blancos, but the defender is keen to add to that total.

Following a record-breaking three successive titles, Madrid were knocked out in the round-of-16 last term by surprise semi-finalists Ajax, who won 5-3 on aggregate.

The disappointment of that premature exit has only made Varane more determined to reclaim a trophy held in high esteem by his club.

"For Madrid, the Champions League is something very special," Varane said in Madrid's pre-match press conference, according to Marca.

"For me personally, it motivates me a lot. I believe that it is the hardest competition to win at club level and it excites a lot of people.

"We want to win everything, but the Champions League is very special."

Varane faces a return to his native France as Los Blancos take on Paris-Saint Germain in a tricky-looking opening match to kick off their quest for continental glory.
