Rafael Benitez denies reports Real Madrid stars confronted him over playing style

Real Madrid boss Rafael Benitez denies reports that Cristiano Ronaldo, Sergio Ramos and Marcelo confronted him about his tactics.

Real Madrid boss Rafael Benitez has rejected reports that a handful of senior players, including Cristiano Ronaldo, confronted him about his playing style.

The 55-year-old Spaniard, who took over at the Bernabeu in the summer, has been criticised for being too defensive.

It had been reported that Ronaldo, Marcelo and Sergio Ramos had words with Benitez about the style that he is implementing on the team, but the former Liverpool manager has rejected these claims.

In today's press conference ahead of this weekend's El Clasico, Benitez told reporters: "I have lots of respect for your profession as journalists but the story about this meeting is completely false."

The coach added: "I respect people's opinions but we are an attacking team and we'll continue playing as we do with more efficiency if possible."

Madrid are currently second in La Liga, three points behind leaders Barcelona.
