Giuseppe Bergomi has claimed that Inter Milan are making the right call by selling Mateo Kovacic to Real Madrid.
Kovacic was rumoured to be attracting interest from a number of clubs earlier in the summer, and the Croatian's spell at the San Siro now appears to be coming to an end after it was reported that Inter had accepted a bid from the Spanish giants.
Inter boss Roberto Mancini suggested that Financial Fair Play restrictions were a key reason behind the deal, and Bergomi believes that the club's decision will be vindicated.
"I would say this is an important deal for Inter from a financial point of view," the former Inter defender told FCInterNews.
"We are talking about a significant fee. I think selling him is the right decision.
"Kovacic has never really been able to hit his best form at Inter. He was unable to find his best position under Andrea Stramaccioni and Walter Mazzarri and it is the same under Roberto Mancini."
Reports have suggested that Inter will receive close to £25m for the 21-year-old.
