Sergio Ramos: 'Real Madrid must continue to win'

Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos backs his team "to continue making history" after a stellar 2016-17 campaign for the Spanish giants.

Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has said that his team will attempt "to continue making history" after a stellar 2016-17 campaign for the Spanish giants.

The club wrested the La Liga title away from Barcelona last season, while they also became the first team in the modern era to successfully defend the Champions League after overcoming Juventus in last month's final.

However, Ramos has insisted that Los Blancos will not rest on their success from the 2016-17 campaign as the Madrid outfit will "start from scratch" next term.

"[We will aim] to continue making history. Therefore we must forget a little of what has been achieved, which for me is the key to success: resetting and returning with the same ambition," Ramos told Marca.

"I have been here for many years but I have more enthusiasm than the first day to play, to win, to wear the shirt of the best club in the world. Every year you have to start from scratch, turn the page and start with new motivation.

"This year we started with the mentality of winning titles immediately. The challenge is always to overcome what was done the previous season. We have made history, but our intention and goal is to make the history of this club bigger."

Ramos, 31, scored 10 times in 43 appearances for Real Madrid last season, and the centre-back has now found the back of the net on 68 occasions for the capital giants since his 2005 move from Sevilla.
