Athletic Bilbao win at Real Valladolid

Athletic Bilbao begin the new La Liga season with a scrappy 2-1 win at Real Valladolid.

Athletic Bilbao have begun the new La Liga season with a scrappy away win at Real Valladolid.

Benat and Kike Sola made their debuts for Bilbao, but it was the familiar duo of Markel Susaeta and Iker Muniain who got on the scoresheet for Ernesto Valverde's side.

Susaeta and Muniain's strikes were sandwiched either side of Patrick Ebert's seventh - and possibly last - goal for Pucela.

Bilbao are now unbeaten in their last five encounters against Valladolid.
