Fabio Capello unhappy as lasers are shone at Russian goalkeeper's face

Fabio Capello is upset as lasers were shone in Akinfeev's face during a free kick which was scored by Algeria, ultimately sending them through to the knockout stages.

Fabio Capello was left unhappy as lasers were shone at Igor Akinfeev's face during Russia's 1-1 draw with Algeria on Thursday night.

Television footage shows that a green laser was aimed at Akinfeev's face as Algeria's Yacine Brahimi's free kick was converted by Islam Slimani. The goal proved costly and eliminated the Russians.

"The goalkeeper was unable to do his job. The laser beam was in his face," the Russian coach told reporters.

"He was blinded by the laser beam. It is not an excuse. There are pictures and you can see that in the footage."

Russia needed to win to progress to the knockout stages of the competition, with a draw seeing Algeria go through for the first time in their history.
