Fabio Capello urges Russians to play abroad

Fabio Capello believes that his Russian players would benefit if more of them played abroad.

Fabio Capello has conceded that he would like some of his Russia squad to ply their trade in other European leagues.

All 23 players that Capello has selected for the upcoming World Cup are based in the Russian Premier League.

Although Capello believes that the Russian top flight is a "good league", he would be keen for some of his players to try their luck abroad.

"I think it's a good league but I think also when you play away in other countries it's possible to improve, to understand something more. I prefer if some players play away," the former England head coach told reporters.

Russia begin their World Cup campaign a week today against South Korea.
