Manchester United have reportedly made progress in their efforts to sign Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt.

The Red Devils are looking to strengthen their backline following the departure of experienced centre-back Raphael Varane.

As it stands, Erik ten Hag's defensive options include Lisandro Martinez, Jonny Evans, Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof.

However, Maguire and Lindelof are facing uncertain futures and could both be sold, especially if Man United bring in defensive reinforcements this summer.

A deal to take Netherlands international Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna to Manchester United is "now close", according to The Athletic journalist David Ornstein.

The 23-year-old has emerged as Man United's leading forward target this summer, with the club determined to bring in competition for Rasmus Hojlund during the 2024-25 campaign.

Zirkzee has allegedly already come to an agreement with Man United over personal terms, but the structure of the deal between the two clubs needs to be finalised.

The forward has a €40m (£33.9m) release fee in his contract, and it remains to be seen whether the Red Devils will activate the buy-out clause, or attempt to negotiate a lower deal.

Kylian Mbappe and Endrick will both boost Real Madrid's squad for the 2024-25 campaign, with Los Blancos already making two standout attacking signings this summer.

Carlo Ancelotti's side will allegedly pay Palmeiras a guaranteed €35m (£29.6m) for Endrick, although the deal could eventually rise to €60m (£50.8m) once various add-ons have been taken into account.

Mbappe has arrived on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain, but the deal will still be one of the biggest of all time due to his sign-on fee and the wages involved.

Real Madrid are still thought to be looking to bring in more players this summer, though, and here Sports Mole takes a look at three potential further incomings at Bernabeu.

Real Madrid will reportedly make another attempt to sign Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies once the 2024 Copa America has concluded.

Davies has helped Canada reach the semi-finals of the competition, with the national side set to face Argentina on Tuesday evening for a position in the final.

The 23-year-old has played every minute of Canada's Copa America campaign to date, sporting the captain's armband in the process, and he entered the tournament off the back of making 42 appearances for Bayern during the 2023-24 campaign, scoring three goals and registering six assists in the process.

Davies has less than 12 months left to run on his contract at Allianz Arena, and Real Madrid are believed to be huge admirers of the full-back.
