Roberto di Matteo ready for Schalke 04 challenge

Roberto di Matteo believes that he is experienced enough to improve Schalke after being appointed coach on Tuesday.

Newly-appointed Schalke 04 boss Roberto di Matteo has expressed his belief that he boasts enough experience to prove himself successful at the club.

Di Matteo was named as Jens Keller's successor in Gelsenkirchen on Tuesday as the Italian steps back into football for the first time since being sacked by Chelsea in November 2012.

"I know the demands are high here, but I've been in the football business for 24 years," he told reporters at a press conference.

"I've worked in Switzerland, Italy, England and now in Germany and I think I've got the experience needed to deal with it.

"The club wants to qualify for the Champions League automatically, and that is my aim too."

The 44-year-old, who has only been in management since 2008 after taking the MK Dons job, led Chelsea to Champions League and FA Cup successes in 2012.
