Horst Heldt: 'Roberto Di Matteo can boost Schalke 04'

Schalke 04 sporting director Horst Heldt is confident that new manager Roberto Di Matteo will help the club climb up the Bundesliga table.

Schalke 04 sporting director Horst Heldt has backed new manager Roberto Di Matteo to turn the club's recent fortunes around.

The Italian took charge of the Bundesliga side on Tuesday following the dismissal of Jens Keller.

Despite a disappointing start to the season that has seen Schalke take just eight points from seven games, Heldt is confident that Di Matteo can help the team move up the table.

"By changing the manager, we want to create new momentum," he told the club's official website. "We're utterly convinced that Roberto Di Matteo will stabilise the team and achieve our goals in the Bundesliga and Champions League."

Di Matteo will manage Schalke for the first time on October 18 when they host Hertha Berlin in the league.
