Sochaux came from behind to secure a point in a 1-1 draw with Valenciennes on Saturday.
It was the away side who started the stronger and Mamadou Samassa so nearly headed Valenciennes into a lead after seven minutes, but his effort was pushed away by Teddy Richert.
Sochaux began to dominate as the half progressed, however, and Edouard Butin saw his effort after 30 minutes pushed away by Nicolas Penneteau.
Damien Perquis had a golden chance to put the home side ahead moments after the break, but his header missed when he might have done better.
Valenciennes took the lead after 69 minutes via Gregory Pujol who found the bottom corner after good work from Renaud Cohade.
The home side so nearly brought the match level after 71 minutes, but Ryad Boudebouz's effort drifted just wide of the post.
Sochaux eventually found an equaliser after 77 minutes, however, and it came via an own goal from Valenciennes defender Isimat Mirin after Sebastien Corchia had struck a shot.
It was the home side who pushed for the winner in the latter stages, but they could not secure the goal that would have moved them off the bottom of Ligue 1.
Sochaux remain in 20th, while Valenciennes remain in tenth.
