Jay Rodriguez: 'Southampton can kick on next season'

Southampton forward Jay Rodriguez is adamant that his side can kick on in the Premier League next season and also make an impression in their Europa League campaign.

Southampton forward Jay Rodriguez has insisted that his side are more than capable of pushing on from their seventh-place finish in the Premier League next season.

The 25-year-old was forced to watch from the sidelines while he recovered from a torn ACL sustained in the 2013-14 campaign as his side performed above expectations to clinch a place in the Europa League.

Rodriguez is adamant that the club can continue to have success in the top flight as well as making their mark in Europe.

"Last season was great for the team and there's no reason why we can't kick on this year," Rodriguez told the club's official website.

"Obviously we have the Europa League as well, which is something we can look forward to. But I think it will be a good season for us. We'll work hard in pre-season to stand us in good stead for the campaign."

Rodriguez committed his future to the Saints earlier in the year by penning a four-year contract extension.
