Southampton boss Nigel Adkins says that the Saints will be making signings before Friday.

Southampton manager Nigel Adkins is still expecting new signings on the South Coast despite the transfer window closing in 48 hours.

The Saints have been linked all summer with a move for Bologna midfielder Gaston Ramirez, and brought in Emmanuel Mayuka yesterday.

Adkins would not name specific players, but did admit that the club is working hard to bring in new faces before Friday's deadline.

"We will be bringing players in," he said. "We will be working hard behind the scenes. The chairman has been great, he has backed us.

"We achieved back-to-back promotions and now we want to push on.

"It is fair to say we will be brining in new players who will push us to that next level where we want to be."

Saints goalkeeper Kelvin Davis however, did offer an update on Ramirez.

"Apparently Ramirez is on his way," said Davis.

"I think it is a statement of intent. We have done some shrewd business so far and it would be nice to add one or two more who can provide that little bit of magic when you need to win games."

Any new Southampton signings could face Manchester United on Sunday.
