David de Gea hopeful Spain can retain World Cup title

David de Gea is hopeful that Spain can keep their status as champions by winning the World Cup in Brazil next month.

Spain goalkeeper David de Gea believes that Spain are more than capable of winning the World Cup in Brazil as they remain the 'best team in the world'.

The Manchester United shot-stopper will travel to South America with the reigning champions next month for the tournament, which gets underway on June 12.

Spain have stayed at the top of FIFA's world rankings since winning the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

"It's been a long and hard season for many of the national team players but they are the best in the world and hopefully we can win the title," De Gea told reporters.

The world champions will take on the Netherlands, Chile and Australia in the group phase.
