Tottenham Hotspur legend Ossie Ardiles has hit out at the club's 'under-performing' summer signings.
Spurs spent over £110m on the likes of Erik Lamela, Roberto Soldado and Paulinho at the start of the season, but an inconsistent campaign has seen the team finish outside of the Champions League places.
Ardiles believes that it is the players, and not former manager Andre Villas-Boas or current boss Tim Sherwood, who are to blame for the side's disappointing season.
"I believe that the players we have brought in this season have been the problem," the Argentine told the Evening Standard. "They are not performing the way we expected. I don't want to name names, but basically all the people we have bought. This is a serious, serious problem.
"At the end of the day, whoever the manager is, AVB earlier in the season and later on Tim, there is not a lot you can do with the kind of players we have right now."
Spurs play their final game of the season on Sunday when they welcome Aston Villa to White Hart Lane.
