Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas declares himself "very happy" that Steve Clarke has realised his dream of being a manager.

Tottenham Hotspur boss Andre Villas-Boas has said he is "very happy" that Steve Clarke has become a manager.

Clarke enjoyed a successful career as an assistant manager, working with the likes of Jose Mourinho, Gianfranco Zola and Kenny Dalglish, before making the step up to manage West Bromwich Albion.

His managerial career got off to the perfect start last weekend as his side beat Liverpool 3-0 on the opening day, and Villas-Boas, who worked with Clarke under Mourinho at Chelsea, believes that he has picked his career moves very shrewdly.

"Steve has taken his steps very wisely and I'm happy he has achieved his ambition of becoming a manager," Villas-Boas said.

"I respect him a lot because he took those steps very sensibly. He got the opportunity to be in the Premier League in a club as well organised as West Brom where he can build something extremely good. It's an excellent opportunity for him so I am very happy for him.

"I congratulate him on getting the job and hopefully he can do very well."

Villas-Boas and Clarke will be reacquainted on Saturday as Spurs host West Brom.
