Andre Villas-Boas: 'We can't win Premier League yet'

Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas feels that his side are not yet capable of winning the Premier League this season.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas believes that he is building a squad that will eventually be capable of challenging for the Premier League title, but doesn't think his side can win it this season.

Spurs have broken their transfer record twice already this summer with the arrivals of Paulinho and Roberto Soldado for fees of around £17m and £26m respectively.

The White Hart Lane outfit look as though they will break it twice more before the window closes, with the arrival of Willian expected to be announced shortly, as well as their reported interest in Roma's £30m-rated Erik Lamela.

However, Villas-Boas thinks that the club are not yet ready to seriously compete for the title, but believes that the squad he is putting in place may one day be ready to win the quadruple.

"I don't agree that we can be title contenders for this season because everything is happening, everything is changing," Villas-Boas is quoted as saying in The Mirror.

"Only a treble has been achieved in English football - Manchester United [in 1999]. A quadruple has never happened. It's very difficult because of the demands of the Premier League along with the strong competitions such as the Europa League or Champions League.

"We have to create a team from all these new players that we have bought. We haven't had lots of time to work with them. I believe that in the future we can definitely achieve it. That dream can definitely happen in a couple of years."

Spurs began their Premier League campaign with a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace last Sunday.
