Brighton & Hove Albion reportedly agree a club-record fee of £25m with Stuttgart for Argentina international forward Nicolas Gonzalez.

Brighton & Hove Albion have reportedly agreed a club-record fee of an initial £25m with Stuttgart for Nicolas Gonzalez.

The 23-year-old forward scored six goals and provided two assists in 15 Bundesliga appearances for the German club during the 2020-21 campaign, which proved to be an injury-hit season for Gonzalez.

Gonzalez is currently on international duty with Argentina in the Copa America, and he started alongside Lionel Messi and Lautaro Martinez in a front three for the national side in their opening draw against Chile.

The Guardian reports that Stuttgart have also accepted a similar bid around £25m from Fiorentina but Gonzalez is understood to prefer a move to the Premier League.

After warding off competition from Tottenham Hotspur and Leeds United, Brighton will break their club-record fee of £20m for Adam Webster in 2019 to bring Gonzalez to the Amex Stadium.

Gonzalez arrived at Stuttgart in 2018 and has gone on to score 23 goals in 79 appearances for the club.
