Manchester City 'interested in re-signing Pedro Porro from Tottenham Hotspur'

Manchester City are reportedly interested in re-signing right-back Pedro Porro from Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

Porro spent three years at Man City between 2019 and 2022 following a spell at sister club Girona, but he never made a single appearance for Pep Guardiola's side.

The 24-year-old instead honed his craft during loan spells with Real Valladolid and Sporting Lisbon, and he particularly impressed with the latter before joining permanently in the summer of 2022.

Porro made a total of 98 appearances for Sporting, scoring 12 goals and registering 20 assists, and his superb performances with the Portuguese giants caught the attention of Tottenham, who signed the right-back on an initial loan deal in January last year with an obligation to buy for €45m (£38.7m) the following summer.

The two-cap Spain international has since established himself as a key cog in Ange Postecoglou's machine, contributing with seven assists in 19 Premier League starts so far this season, as well as scoring a stunning long-range match-winner in Friday's FA Cup third-round win over Burnley.

Porro is seemingly content at Spurs and is under contract at the North London club until the summer of 2028.

However, Tottenham Hotspur News reports that Man City are considering a summer swoop for the attack-minded right-back, who has been identified as a potential long-term replacement for Kyle Walker.

The report adds that a transfer back to the Etihad would be "terribly hard" for Porro to turn down as well as the opportunity to have a second chance working for Spanish compatriot Guardiola.

It is understood that Man City could be rivalled by La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona, who have previously been credited with an interest in the right-back.

Porro is nine years younger than 33-year-old Walker, who was heavily linked with a switch from Man City to Bayern Munich last summer.

However, a transfer ultimately failed to materialise and Walker eventually put pen to paper on a new contact at the Etihad that runs until June 2026.

The England international was confirmed over the summer as one of five Man City players elected to captain the club as part of a senior leadership group following a squad vote, and he has since featured regularly under Guardiola this season.

Walker has played 27 times for the Citizens across all competitions in the first half of the 2023-24 campaign, and he had the honour of lifting both the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup while wearing the captain armband.

Since joining City in 2017, Walker has made a total of 281 appearances and has won 16 trophies, including five Premier League titles and one Champions League.

Walker is not the only right-back option at Guardiola's disposal, as 19-year-old academy graduate Rico Lewis has emerged as one of the club's brightest prospects over the last 12 months, although he has recently operated more as a midfielder.
