Harry Redknapp has admitted that Tottenham Hotspur failed to land Milos Krasic because the player was only interested in a permanent deal.
The Spurs boss was keen to acquire the 27-year-old Czech winger before Tuesday night's deadline, in order to bolster his wide options.
Speaking after his side beat Wigan Athletic on Tuesday night, Redknapp revealed that he could not afford Juventus's proposed transfer fee.
"I was going to take Krasic on loan. I was interested in buying him a year ago too but he was expensive - £15m," he told Sky Sports News.
"I wanted him on loan this time but he didn't want to come and wanted a permanent deal but we didn't have the money."
Krasic joined Juve from CSKA Moscow in 2010 for £12.4m.
