Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly moved a step closer to completing the signing of Atletico Madrid defender Toby Alderweireld.
The Belgian spent last season on loan at Southampton, who were reported to be keen on a permanent deal, but Spurs recently entered the race to secure the 26-year-old's services.
According to The Telegraph, Alderweireld is hopeful of joining Spurs when he returns home from his honeymoon as the North Londoners continue to negotiate a price with Atletico.
Chelsea have previously been linked with a move for the defender, who can play at centre-back or full-back, but the report suggests that Spurs are favourites to complete a deal.
Alderweireld would be Tottenham's second summer signing following the arrival of Kieran Trippier from Burnley.
